Florida Women’s Golf Finishes Ninth at The Landfall Tradition

The University of Florida women's golf team wrapped up its fall season on Sunday by posting its first top-10 finish of the season. The Gators used a season-best tournament score of 877 (288-292-297) to place ninth at the Landfall Tradition on the par-72 Peter Dye Course. Wake Forest captured the team title with a +1 (865) score, while Alabama took the runner-up position with a +4 (868) team total.
Florida sophomore Maria Torres shot a season-best -1 (71) in Round 1 and matched her score in Round 3 to claim her first top-20 finish of the season. For the first time this fall, the Gators had a pair of players finish in the top-25. Torres turned in an even-par total (216) to finish tied for 11th, while sophomore Karolina Vlckova used a +3 (219) to finish 23rd.
Vlckova and freshman Taylor Tomlinson each recorded a low tournament score for the season scoring 219 and 222, respectively. Sophomore Kelly Grassel and junior Ursa Orehek matched their season-best 54-hole scores of 221 and 226, respectively.
The Landfall Tradition marked the Gators' final tournament of the fall season, and the Orange and Blue will be back on the links on Jan. 26, 2015, in Lecanto, Fla. for the Florida Challenge.

Thoughts on the Gators' last fall tournament:
“We hung in there very well for most of the day, but had some mistakes coming down the stretch that hurt us. Overall, a better week with many more positives than we've had all fall.”
On Maria Torres' performance:
“Maria had a solid event and a good closing round. She continues to improve and we will look for her to be a leader for us this spring.”
Looking ahead to the spring season:
“We are committed to working hard over the offseason to be prepared for the spring. In addition, we want to get the team healthy so we have a full roster of competition which will benefit our team.”
