Gators Shift Focus to Day Two of Carpet Capital Collegiate

DALTON, Ga. – The University of Florida men's golf team looks to rebound in Round 2 of the Carpet Capital Collegiate after a shaky first-round start in its season debut on Friday. The Gators combined to shoot +16 (304), putting them in 12th place.
Freshman Sam Horsfield let the way for the Orange and Blue, recording a 2-over 74, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 15th hole. He's tied for 20th among the 81-player field. Sophomore Alejandro Tosti posted a 3-over 75 to tie for 32nd entering the second day of play Saturday.
Freshmen Jorge Garcia and Blake Dyer contributed rounds of +4 (76) and +7 (79), respectively, while freshman Kyler Tate shot a +10 (82).
Georgia Tech leads the field with a score of 2-under 286. The Yellow Jackets' Jacob Joiner holds a three-stroke advantage in the individual contest, sitting atop of the leaderboard with a first-round score of 6-under 66.
The Gators aim to move up in the standings when they return to The Farm Golf Club on Saturday for Round 2. Action continues on Sunday with the third and final round.

“The conditions were perfect. The greens are unbelievable. It was beautiful weather and a beautiful golf course. We just didn't play very well today. This team is tough and all five of them are out here practicing right now. In tough times, we are going to bounce back and work harder. I expect us to have a much better day tomorrow.”
On the focus for Round 2:
“I think the greens just got us today. The greens here are a lot faster than we have back at home. We were out here practicing on the putting greens this afternoon, so we'll be prepared for tomorrow.”
