Sam Horsfield Leads Gator Men’s Golf in Collegiate Debut

The University of Florida men's golf team improved four places during the final round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sunday to finish seventh, led by freshman Sam Horsfield's tie for fourth place in his debut as a Gator.
As a team, the Gators saved their best round for last, recording an 8-over 296 in Round 3.
Horsfield collected his second eagle of the tournament on the par-5 12th hole en route to posting an even-par 72 on Sunday. He wrapped up the tournament at -1 (215) to pick up the top-five finish.
Freshman Jorge Garcia and sophomore Alejandro Tosti tied for 39th with a 12-over 228, with Tosti recording a 4-over 76 on Sunday. After Garcia opened the back nine at 4-over par, he made a big comeback, shooting 3-under par on the front nine to finish +1 (73) for the day.
Freshman Blake Dyer contributed his best round on the final day, shooting a 3-over 75 to finish +16 (232) and tied for 51st. Freshman Kyler Tate carded a +4 (76) Sunday to finish tied for 55th at +17 (233).
Auburn won the tournament with a 4-over 868, while Georgia Tech's Jacob Joiner took home the individual title with a 4-under 212.
The Gators will return to action at the Dick's Sporting Goods Collegiate Cup in Kingston Springs, Tenn., over the weekend of Sept. 25-27.

“Today was our best day, for sure, and was really close to being a great day, but we let it get away from us at the end there. Great teams finish great rounds off, and we didn't do that today, so we have to get home and get back to work.”
On Sam Horsfield's top-five finish:
“He's really, really good at golf. That's the only way I can put it. He's got every part of the game down, and his attitude and determination are starting to match up with that. I think the sky is the limit for him. I'm happy for him. It's a really good start, but I think even he wants to be better than just finishing in the top five.”
