The Gator pair needs two more wins to reach the main draw
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Florida's Anna Danilina and Spencer Liang won their opening round qualifying draw match at the 2016 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships on Tuesday.
The Gator pair defeated Wichita State's Porubin and Guidetti, 8-3, and moved into the second round where they play Mississippi State's Lee and Rioux, who upset top-seeded Guerin and Ulyashchenko of Wake Forest.
Two rounds of doubles will be played Wednesday, with the teams that win both earning a spot in the coveted main draw.
Two rounds of singles also were played on Tuesday in the qualifying draw. Results from those matches were not available at the time of this release due to the time difference.
Two rounds of singles also were played on Tuesday in the qualifying draw and Danilina won both to remain in contention for one of the open spots for the main draw. The Gator sophomore earned a tough 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win against Texas Tech's Sarah Dvorak, before advancing after a 6-1, 1-0 decision when Southern California's Madison Westby retired due to injury.
Danilina plays Stanford's Caroline Doyle on Wednesday, mid-afternoon, for a place in the main draw.
Josie Kuhlman, who advanced to the qualifying draw after an impress three-match run through prequalifying action, dropped her opening-round, three-set bout, but rebounded in the consolation match later in the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Maeva Razakasoa of Long Beach State.
Liang, who also marched through the prequalifying rounds into the qualifying draw, lost twice on Tuesday to end her participation in singles action at the event.
