ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Florida Women's Tennis Team (17-7) blanked Toledo (13-9) 4-0 Saturday morning to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Next up for the Gators is a Sunday, 1 p.m. EDT meeting vs. the winner of today's other first round match between No. 12 Michigan and Illinois State.
Brooke Black and Valery Gynina took less then 25 minutes to win their number two doubles match 6-0. It was the third straight victory for the duo, and the fifth win in their last six matches. India Houghton and Lucie Pawlak closed out their number three singles match 6-3 shortly thereafter to give the Gators the doubles point. Houghton and Pawlak have picked up wins in four of their last five outings.
Gabia Paskauskas and Nikola Daubnerova recorded identical 6-1, 6-0 victories at number three and six singles respectively to put Florida up 3-0. Paskauskas is now 19-8 on the season, while Daubnerova improved to 18-6 and 10-3 in the number six slot. Pawlak closed out the team win with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at number four singles. The freshman leads the Gators with 22 victories this season and has won four straight decisions.
No. 17 Florida is playing in its 42nd NCAA Tournament and is now 122-34 all-time. The Gators have seven national championships to their credit, and another seven runner up finishes.
