The Gators were in action in two different events on Friday.
FLUSHING, N.Y. – Florida junior Josie Kuhlman reached the quarterfinals of the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., as she won her first match of the day before bowing out of the prestigious event on Friday.
Also in action on Friday were Anna Danilina, Peggy Porter and Spencer Liang at the Kick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Danilina advanced to the quarterfinals of singles and to the semifinals of the doubles draw with Liang. Porter and Liang weren't as fortunate in their singles matches, as both lost in the second round. Specific details of the event were not available at the time of this release.
In New York, Kuhlman began Friday with an impressing 6-4, 6-2 win over North Carolina's eighth-seeded and No. 31-ranked Jessie Aney, before dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Duke's Meible Chi, one of the nation's top-rated freshmen.
Woolcock didn't have to pick up a racquet to advance to the quarterfinals of the consolation singles draws, as her opponent withdrew due to injury. The Gator senior will face St. John's Jessica Livianu at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Kuhlman and Woolcock then paired in the round of 16 of the doubles draw, where they dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) decision to Oklahoma State's Vladica Babic and Carla Tur Mari and completed their run.
