SUNSET, S.C – Following an even-par (288) in the final round on Sunday, the Gators' women's golf team finished in third place as a team at seven-under (857) at the Clemson Invitational.
UF's 288 on Sunday was the second-lowest score of the day.
Individually, Maria Torres continued her stellar spring as she captured her sixth top-ten finish of the season. The senior used an under-par score in every round to finish the tournament in a tie for second place at seven-under (209).
Karolina Vlckova and Taylor Tomlinson both tied for 12th overall with scores of even-par (216) for the weekend.
For the season, it was Vlckova's fourth top-15 finish and Tomlinson's fifth.
Freshman Carlotta Ricolfi, who competed as an individual this weekend, tied for 29th at four-over (220).
Florida State won the team title at 10-under (854), while FSU's Matilda Castren captured the individual title at nine-under (207).
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
On the Gators' final round:
"Hats off to Florida State, they are a great team, as is Furman. It was a great day of competition and really positive to have this type of experience before the post season."
On Florida's play this weekend:
"It's a great lesson that every shot counts. Unfortunately today, we made too many mistakes to make any kind of real run at FSU. We led the field this week in birdies so we got it half right, but our mistakes cost us this week."
On Torres' second place finish:
"Maria had another great week. She is playing solid, but more importantly playing smart. Her smart play is giving her the opportunity to be in contention every week."
