Birmingham, Ala. – Maria Torres paced the Florida women's golf team in the first round of the SEC Women's Golf Championship on Friday. The senior used a bogey-free back nine to finish the day in a tie for seventh place at two-under (70).
Overall as a team, UF ended the day in third place at four-under (284).
Karolina Vlckova and Kelly Grassel both sit inside the top-15 as they are tied for 12th (one-under, 71). Taylor Tomlinson is tied for 19th after carding an even-par (72).
Texas A&M is leading the tournament at six-under (282), and South Carolina's Katelyn Dambaugh, Vanderbilt's Alexandra Farnsworth and Arkansas' Alana Uriell are tied at the top of the leaderboard at four-under (68).
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
On the Gators' first round…
"Overall, I thought it was a great day. We talked this morning about controlling the things that we could control, like our attitudes and emotions. I thought they did a great job with that today. Even when we had a little adversity, we bounced back quickly. They fought hard all the way to the end."
On the seniors play today:
"Great start for the seniors, that's what you want to see out of your senior leadership. They did a great job learning from their past experiences at the SEC Championship. You can tell they played like veterans today, not just from their scores, but with how they composed themselves."
