Gators Eye World Teams at National Championships Around the Globe

Several Gators already hold World Championships standards and need only finish in the top three at their respective national championship to book London tickets
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A total of 20 Gators will vie for World Championships berths at this week's United States Track and Field Outdoor Championships (June 22-25), while several internationals will compete in their own country's national championships as well.
Top-three finishers at the USATF Outdoor Championships clinch spots on Team USA, so long as they hold the IAAF World Championships qualifying standard.
Two Gators already guaranteed trips to London for World Championships are 400-meter hurdler Kerron Clement (2004-05) and triple jumper Christian Taylor (2009-11). Clement, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist, nabbed a "wild card" with his 2016 IAAF Diamond League title. Taylor, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, also won last year's Diamond League and is the reigning world champion from 2015, both of which automatically place him in the field.
Other high-profile Gators chasing Team USA berths are horizontal jumper Will Claye (2010-11), 400 hurdler Eric Futch, and sprinter Kyra Jefferson.
Claye, a three-time Olympic medalist, ranks second in the world in the triple jump, right behind Taylor. He will also compete in the long jump.
Futch completed his collegiate career with back-to-back NCAA titles, becoming the No. 10-ranked collegian in history and posting the No. 5-ranked time in the world this year (48.32 seconds) with his victory earlier this month.
Jefferson broke the 28-year-old women's outdoor 200 meters collegiate record (22.02 seconds) to win this year's NCAA Outdoor Championships, ranking her fourth in the world and second among Americans this year.
The USATF Junior Outdoor Championships are in conjunction with the senior events this year, and five Gators will take part in those festivities.
