Marta Perez becomes third Gator in last three year to finish in top five
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida has advanced to the quarterfinal round of match play after shooting its lowest round of the week.
The Gators shot a third round 289 (+9) and tied for fifth place with Auburn. After the tie breaker, Florida was awarded the sixth seed and will play Arkansas in the quarterfinals.
Coaches from both teams selected the match-ups in a snake draft format. Florida had first pick and selected Elin Esborn after Arkansas deferred its right to put a player out first.
Individually, Marta Perez finished tied for fourth on the leaderboard carding a 216 (E) through 54 holes. This marks the third consecutive year a Gator has placed inside of the top five (Maria Torres, 1, 2016, Kelly Grassel, 3, 2017 & Torres, 4, 2017).
After carding an opening round 75, Perez went sub-par on both Thursday and Friday to bring her score back to even.
Perez sunk three birdies on the front nine to lift here to a 71 (-1) in round three.
Sierra Brooks was the other Gator to finish inside of the top 25. Brooks tied for 24th with Vanderbilt's Abbey Carlson at 9-over par for the tournament.
With her round of 3-over par, Elin Esborn moved up six spot on the leaderboard to tied for 31st with seven other players.
Quarterfinal play tomorrow begins at 8:00 a.m. (ET) with the Gators teeing off of No. 10.

Coach's Take:
On Gators third round
"It was good to see us bounce back after a little hiccup on No. 2. I think seeing that as well as making more birdies bodes well for tomorrow. We didn't finish the way that we wanted and we'll fix some of those things when we get home, but step one is over. Now, the slate is clean and we start all over again tomorrow." - Coach Emily Bastel Glaser
On Marta Perez finishing in the top five
"We're super proud of her. We're happy for her to have that result to see that she has been working really hard this spring. She can see now all that hard work paying off. In a lot of ways, we weren't surprised because she has been trending towards this. It opens her eyes to what she is capable of doing and that she is on the right track." - Coach
On approach to match play
"It is different from stroke play in that if you make a mistake it's only one hole versus something you have to carry with you the rest of the round. The mentality changes a little bit. Your play is slightly dictated on off what the other player is doing. Our hope is that it allows us to play pretty free and aggressive when we need to be. If you want to compete with a school like Arkansas and the level of players on their team, you are going to have to get out there and not be scared. We'll do our best to get rested and prepare for that mentally tonight and have at it tomorrow." - Coach Emily Bastel Glaser
On match-up against Arkansas
"There are so many good schools in this league that you are going to have play a powerhouse school at some point. We just happen to be playing one of the best in the quarterfinals. You knew you were going to see them at some point down the line if you were going to leave with the trophy. I don't mind it at all. It is going to be a great experience for our players." - Coach
