Marta Perez and Elin Esborn win matches in dramatic fashion
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In the quarterfinal round of SEC Tournament Match Play, Florida fell to Arkansas 2-3 in dramatic fashion.
With only a handful of holes to play, the Gators trailed in every match. That changed on No. 15 when Marta Perez stuck a wedge within a foot of the hole to help her square her match.
Perez remained square with Arkansas' Dylan Kim heading into the par-3 17th. After a nice tee shot, Perez was able to sink her birdie putt while Kim made par.
Perez went on to win the match 1&1.
Elin Esborn who was a group ahead of Perez had her own flair for the dramatic. Esborn entered the par-3 17th down one to the Razorbacks' Alana Uriell. Esborn flew a wedge into the back left of the green while Uriell found the sand trap in the front left of the green.
Eborn was able to come up with a clutch two putt while Uriell was unable to get up and down in two shots.
Entering the final all square, both players found the pine straw off the tee and had to punch out. From the fairway, Esborn stuck her third shot within a few feet of the pin while Uriell flew past it leaving 10+ feet for par.
Uriell would miss her par putt while Esborn sunk her putt claiming the last two holes and the match 1 Up.
Behind them, Sierra Brooks lost one No. 17 2&1, Baggarly fell at No. 16 3&2 and Taylor Tomlinson fell at No. 15 4&3.
Now, the Gators await where they will travel to for the NCAA Regionals which start on May 7th.

Coach's Take:
On quarterfinals of match play
"The last three or four holes were super intense. Those first three matches those girls were grinding and playing good golf. In the first three matches, you had matches that either came down to the last hole or second to last hole. I'm incredibly proud of them from that standpoint that we didn't back down and gave the No. 2 team in the country all they could handle this week. We came up just short. If we don't leave here motivated and encouraged I don't know what to say." - Coach Emily Bastel Glaser
On and Elin Esborn winning in match play
"It is why we recruited them to the University of Florida. They are gritty players, they battle, they are physically talented and they have a lot of match play experience which I think you saw. That is a freshman and sophomore who I would argue are going to be two of the best players in the country moving forward in their careers at Florida. I'm really glad that they were able to have that experience as young players. It bodes well for their future and opens their eyes to what they are capable of" - Coach
On coming close to beating No. 2 Arkansas
"It opens our eyes to how good we can be. It opens our eyes to things that we are capable of that maybe we didn't think we were before this. I hope that we can learn a lot from Arkansas today. The girls said in our circle after the round -- they are all business. That is maybe what we have been lacking on occasion as a young team is our identity in that regard. I hope we can learn from them in that. if we really want to excel at this level which I think we have the physical talent to do. We have to check more of those boxes in terms of how we go about our business day-to-day" - Coach
