Florida boosted by under par rounds from Sierra Brooks and Addie Baggarly
AUSTIN, Texas – The Gators finished the first round of the NCAA Regionals tied for sixth at 3-over-par.
Florida put themselves in position to advance as the top six teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
The Gators were led by sophomore Sierra Brooks and freshman Addie Baggarly who both carded under-par rounds in the opening round.
After Baggarly opened her round with a double bogey, she came back to sink birdies in her fourth, fifth and sixth holes of the day. This brought her round to 1-under. She would par her way into the clubhouse to tie for 16th on the leaderboard.
Brooks, who was even par thorough the first nine hole, finished strong to help put her in the top 10 on the leaderboard. She remained even heading into the final two holes before birding the par-3 17th and par-5 18th to card an opening round 70 (-2).
She is tied for sixth after 18 holes and just two strokes off leader Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M.
Florida will be paired with fellow SEC members Auburn and Texas A&M in round two. The first tee time is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. (ET) with Marta Perez going off first for the Gators.

Coach's Take:
On the Gators' first round:
"Just a couple unforced errors that caused our score to balloon a little. However, I thought mentally everyone was tough and stayed in it and that is very positive," --Coach
On adjustment for round two:
"I think with a few management adjustments we can have a positive finish to the tournament. I think you saw some grit towards the end of our round, particularly Sierra who finished strong and Addie battled all day after a poor start," --Coach
