Gators Hold Strong through Second Day of Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate
Monday, February 18, 2019 | Women's Golf
NEW ORLEANS – With the best round in the field on the second day of the AllState Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, the Gators women's golf team jumped one spot to fourth place.
After shooting four strokes better than round one, the Gators finished with three players inside the top 20, sophomore Addie Baggarly and juniors Sierra Brooks and Marta Perez. The Gators' second round was the best in the field for the day, finishing one-over par, with the next closest being the leaders Texas and USC, finishing three-over on the day.
Three birdies on her last three holes helped Baggarly jump to T2 after spending most of the round around tenth place. One of only five players in the field under par, she is sitting at two-under heading into tomorrow's final round, two strokes off the lead. A five-stroke improvement for Perez in the second round saw her shoot up 23 spots on the leaderboard to T10.
Bogeys for sophomore Elin Esborn and freshman Clara Manzalini were again too much to recover from, despite Esborn birdieing four of her last five holes. They both sit T39 heading into the final round.
