Baggarly Shares Title, Gators Close out AllState Sugar Bowl in Top 5
Tuesday, February 19, 2019 | Women's Golf
NEW ORLEANS – The Florida Gators women's golf team finished the AllState Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate tied for fourth place with SEC opponent South Carolina, twelve strokes off the leader.
Sophomore Addie Baggarly had a career-best finish, tied for first with Leonie Harm from Houston. They were the only two players to finish on par, with the rest of the field over par. Baggarly was two-under and tied for second heading into the final round, two strokes off the leader. Thanks to bogey trouble for the leader, Baggarly was able to stay on par for the round and take home a share of the individual title, the first of her career.
Juniors Marta Perez and Sierra Brooks both finished inside the top 25, at T17 and T22 respectively. Bogey trouble continued for sophomore Elin Esborn and freshman Clara Manzalini but both were able to finish inside the top 50 in a field of over 90 athletes, at T34 and T44 respectively.
Coach's Take
"Overall we saw a lot of improvement from our last time out. We were a lot more competitive this week and had more moments where we were really sharp, just not able to put three rounds together. But it's good to leave knowing we are working on the right things. And we've gained some more valuable knowledge this week." – head coach Emily Bastel Glaser
On Baggarly's performance
"Obviously a special week for Addie. I'm happy for her to get a win but even more so for her to be consistent, close out rounds, and have a great demeanor for 54 holes, all things she has been working on. She's been improving from the moment she arrived on campus. And although sometimes those improvements are subtle or seem small they can culminate at the right time like they did this week. It's a good sign that we have a roster that is capable from top to bottom, this could have been any one of our players this week. But we are thrilled for Addie to have this breakthrough." – coach Glaser
