Gators Card Seventh Top Five Finish, Manzalini Takes Third
Monday, March 25, 2019 | Women's Golf
AUBURN, Ala. – The Florida women's golf team wrapped play at the Evans Derby Experience with a fifth place finish. Freshman Clara Manzalini led the team with her third place finish.
The Gators started cold and got to as low as seventh on the board but birdies from all five line up players throughout the back nine helped them hold onto their fifth spot. Freshman Clara Manzalini stayed in contention for all 54 holes, never straying from the top five individually. She finished her final round at one-over for a four-way tie for third place.
Sophomore Elin Esborn had a tremendous final round, shooting up the leaderboard 13 spots to finish inside the top 15 at T12. Seven birdies on the day helped her card a one-under score of 71, her best of the tournament. Junior Sierra Brooks also ended on a high note, moving up 17 spots on the board to finish in the top 25 at T25.
Coach's Take
"We played well this week. Our second round was a little bit of a fluke, we let it get away from us on day two which hurt our chances to win. But we showed a lot of toughness this week and we've had a tremendous amount of growth as a team in the last few weeks. Something that I think will serve us well in the coming weeks." – Head Coach Emily Glaser
On Manzalini's Performance
"Clara was a bright spot for us this week for sure. She played very well and was poised beyond her freshman status. Really happy for her to have a solid tournament." – Coach Glaser
