Wednesday, May 8, 2019 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. – The Florida women's golf team advances to their 28th NCAA National Championship in program history.
Led by sophomore Elin Esborn, the Gators finished regional play in a tie for second place with Wake Forest, behind the top seed Texas. Esborn finished T5 and three-under in the field of 96. Junior Sierra Brooks was one stroke behind Esborn, finishing T8. Junior Marta Perez finished inside the top 15 as well, coming in at 14th and one-under for the tournament.
This is the sixth time in head coach Emily Bastel Glaser's seven seasons at Florida that the Gators will compete in the NCAA Championships. UF's best finish under Glaser came in 2017 when the Gators advanced to the quarterfinals of match play before falling to the eventual national champion, Arizona State.
Coach's Take
On the team's performance…
"We accomplished our goal this week and that was to advance to Nationals. We did a great job this week of controlling the things we could and managing our emotions. Even today when we didn't execute quite as well we stayed in it mentally and that will bode well for us in Arkansas." – Head Coach Emily Glaser
On Esborn's performance…
"It was really a team effort this week and Elin was a bright spot for us. She is a gamer and she brought a great energy this week, the best I've seen all year." – Coach Glaser
On heading to Arkansas…
We are looking forward to Arkansas. We are a more mature team than we were one year ago in Stillwater and I'm excited to see what we can do." – Coach Glaser
