Meet the Gators: The Infielders

Florida's new infielders include transfers Sam Miller and Ethan Surowiec, as well as freshmen Nic Partridge and Colton Schwarz.
Florida's fall baseball season officially wrapped up with the final game of the Orange & Blue Series last Saturday, but the 2025 Meet the Gators series continues on as the infielders take the dirt. New to Gator Country are high-profile transfer infielders Sam Miller (Columbia) and Ethan Surowiec (Ole Miss), who are joined by true freshmen Nic Partridge and Colton Schwarz at the positional unit.
Sam Miller
As a native of McMurray, Pa., Miller transitions into jersey No. 2 as a Gator after donning No. 1 the past three seasons at Columbia. Claiming Ivy League Player of the Year honors as a junior in 2025, Miller slashed .338/.407/.606 while leading the conference in homers (16), RBI (57) and runs (50). He finished .17-points shy of winning the league triple crown and struck out just 39 times in 216 at bats en route to the third-best slugging percentage in the league. Miller's MVP season came on the heels of a First Team All-Ivy sophomore campaign in which he batted a career-high .353/.411/.647 in 43 games. All told, Miller played in 116 games highlighted by 100 starts at Columbia, hitting .340/.402/.619 with 31 homers, 25 doubles, 117 RBI, 101 runs and six steals.
Rewinding back to high school, Miller was a three-year varsity letterman of the Peters Township High School football and baseball programs. Powering Peters Township to a sectional championship his senior year, Miller was named the 2022 Class 5A Baseball Player of the Year, First Team All-Area and WPIAL All-Conference as both an infielder (first team) and pitcher (second team). Entering college, he was ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 159 player and No. 30 shortstop in Pennsylvania.
Ethan Surowiec
Arriving in Gainesville by way of Gulfport, Miss., Surowiec will roam Condron Family Ballpark in No. 10 this spring. Projected as a corner-infield starter for the Gators, Surowiec is fresh off Northwoods League MVP honors this past summer after slashing .385/.472/.792 with a league-high 20 homers and 74 RBI in 221 at bats in the regular season. The 6-foot-1 slugger also finished second in the NWL in slugging percentage on top of three triples, 24 doubles, 54 runs scored, 32 walks and an impressive 17 stolen bases. His MVP summer followed a true freshman season at Ole Miss in which he saw action in 11 games including three starts. In his lone campaign in Oxford, Surowiec popped two homers and hit .375/.524/.750 with eight RBI and five runs scored.
Coming out of Gulfport High School in Mississippi, Surowiec was ranked as the No. 89 recruit and No. 7 third baseman in the country per Perfect Game, as well as the No. 3 overall player in the state. Lettering four times under head baseball coach Jamie MacMahon, Surowiec was a two-time all-state recipient and batted .375 with nine home runs his senior year.
Nic Partridge
Holding status as one of two UF freshman infielders on the roster, Partridge is set to rep No. 6 in Orange & Blue. Hailing from Lakeland, Fla., the highly-ranked prep star played for head coach David Gotauco at Mulberry Senior High School. Across his junior and senior seasons, he slashed .367/.496/.564 for a 1.060 OPS in 66 games. That output featured eight homers, one triple, 11 doubles, 62 runs, 43 RBI and 32 steals in 33 attempts. In his junior season alone, Partridge swiped 17 bags and swatted seven homers while posting a .457/.615/.857 batting line and 1.472 OPS in 29 games.
Prior to bringing his talents to the Gators, Partridge also competed for Ballers Baseball. From 2019-24, he was named to 35 all-tournament teams at Perfect Game events from 2019-24 and was a four-time PG Preseason All-Region honoree. As a member of the 2025 class, Partridge was tabbed Perfect Game's No. 122 player nationally while being the No. 10 recruit and No. 4 shortstop in Florida.
Colton Schwarz
It is likely the Schwarz name sounds familiar for Gators fans, as Colton's older brother, J.J., holds Florida's freshman home run record (18) and was a two-time All-American as a four-year starter from 2015-18. His older sister, Taylor, was a two-time National Champion (2014 & 2015) as a four-year starter for UF softball. Following in his sister's footsteps, Colton will wear No. 49 in Orange & Blue after starring under head coaches Joe Giummule and Kyle Young at Jupiter High School.
Starting 60 games across his final two prep seasons, Schwarz slashed .381/.515/.597 for a 1.112 career OPS. He finished his Jupiter tenure with six homers, two triples, 16 doubles, 67 runs, 49 RBI and 12 steals in 12 tries while drawing significantly more walks (46) than strikeouts (19) over 176 at bats. Schwarz fanned just six times and worked 29 walks as a senior, providing a .368/.529/.529 slash line after hitting .393/.500/.662 his junior campaign.
Prior to Jupiter, Schwarz spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Palm Beach Gardens High School, where he batted .343/.420/.485 with more walks (nine) than strikeouts (seven) as a sophomore. He entered college ranking as Perfect Game's No. 266 recruit nationally in addition to being the No. 27 player and No. 8 shortstop in the state.
Florida opens the 2026 season at home on Friday, Feb. 13 with the first contest of a three-game series against UAB.
