The Gators lead by 17 shots, with Jack Turner in the solo lead, Josh Bai one back in a tie for second and Luke Poulter three back in a tie for fifth.
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The No. 10 Florida men's golf team is in prime position to sweep the fall finale at the Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club. The Gators are 13-under-par and lead by 17 shots, while Jack Turner (-5) holds the solo lead through 36 holes on Monday.
The Orange and Blue posted their second consecutive under-par round with a 7-under 281 to reach 13-under 563 through two rounds. Augusta (+4), No. 2 Auburn (+5), UNLV (+7) and No. 13 Vanderbilt (+9) round out the top five.
A victory Tuesday would give Florida its second consecutive Williams Cup title after winning by 12 shots at 15-under last year. It would also mark back-to-back victories to close the fall and the 40th all-time under head coach J.C. Deacon, moving him within two wins of Buster Bishop. Bishop led the Gators to the program's two national championships in 1968 and 1973, the first two national titles in Florida Athletics history.
Turner carded a 3-under 69 in the second round, one of three under-par rounds for the Gators on Monday. The senior recorded his team-best seventh round at par or better this fall and holds a one-shot advantage at 5-under. He will look to capture his first collegiate victory after recording three career runner-up finishes.
Josh Bai is also in contention for medalist honors, sitting one shot back at 4-under in a tie for second. The New Zealand native matched Turner with a 3-under 69, the lowest round posted by any player in the field. Bai carded five birdies and played a bogey-free, 3-under back nine as he pursues his first collegiate victory.
Luke Poulter gives Florida a third golfer in contention, sitting three shots back at 2-under in a tie for fifth. Through two rounds, the senior has recorded just two bogeys, four birdies and 30 pars, tied for the most in the field. Poulter will look to claim the third collegiate victory of his career.
Trevor Gutschewski also contributed an under-par round, carding a 2-under 70 for a five-shot improvement from his opening round. The sophomore from Omaha is tied for 14th and made three consecutive birdies on holes two through four. He is tied for first in par-3 scoring with a 2.75 average.
Florida tees off the final round of the fall tomorrow at 9:55 a.m.
