CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Florida Gators got two matches in the books Monday at the UTR Pro Fall Slam Chapel Hill as Gabia Paskauskas and Valery Gynina both picked up straight-set victories.
The event features a 20-player, 7-day Pro Tennis Tour format, which uses a round-robin and playoff format, guaranteeing multiple matches for each participating player.
The 20-person main draw consists of four groups of five players each. The round-robin group stages will take place from Monday, Nov. 2 through Friday, Nov. 6. The playoff rounds will be single elimination, and consist of five draws of four players depending on the player's group finishing (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th) and will run from Saturday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 8.
In Group A, Paskauskas made short work of South Carolina's Sara Børkop upending the sophomore 6-0, 6-3. Gynina, taking part in Group C in the round-robin portion, topped N.C. State's Roison Gilheany in a razor-thin 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) decision.
Tuesday will see Gynina take on N.C. State's Georgia Cranford, while Paskauskas faces off against Auburn's Natalie Outcalt. Scarlett Nicholson begins her run at the title in Group D tomorrow with a match against Chloé Zigliara.
