McMiller’s seven threes tie for third-most in a single game in program history
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Junior Kiyomi McMiller went off for a career-high 42 points Thursday as the Florida women's basketball team remained undefeated (2-0) with a 95-65 win over in-state foe UCF (1-1). McMiller's 42 points were the fourth most in Gators' history, and her seven made threes were tied for the third most. She also became just the fifth player in the program's history to score 30 or more points in back-to-back games.
McMiller wasn't the only player posting record numbers. Junior Vivian Iwuchukwu, who missed the team's last two practices due to an illness, posted a career-high 20 points on an efficient 6 of 7 shooting from the field, and 8 of 12 from the free throw line.
Vanessa Harris, who scored a career-high 26 points in the Gators' season-opening victory over Bucknell, grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds Thursday, including six on the offensive glass.
Senior Jade Weathersby also got into the act recording her first career double-double as a member of the Gators with 10 points and 11 boards.
Florida led 20-17 after the first quarter, but a 9-0 run midway through the second pushed the Gators' advantage into double-digits, where it would remain for the rest of the game. UF outscored the Knights 28-11 in the second, draining 5 of 6 three-pointers. Florida's defense stepped up in the second quarter as well as they held UCF to 5 of 12 shooting from the field, and forced five turnovers.
The Gators continued to extend their lead throughout the second half, going up 30 mid-way through the third, and effectively ending the game.
The crowd remained locked in, however, as McMiller continued her quest for 40. She had 37 points with under four minutes remaining, and as the ball moved around the perimeter, a chant of "Forty! Forty! Forty!" reverberated through the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. McMiller responded by draining a three-pointer with 3:50 to go, and the crowd erupted. She closed out her evening with a pair of free throws, and Coach Reiss subbed for her with 2:42 to go to one last standing ovation.
Florida hits the road for the first time this season traveling to Tennessee to face Chattanooga on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. ET on SECN+.

FROM THE GATORS' MOUTHS
Head Coach Tammi Reiss
Opening Statement...
"Obviously I am really happy with our defensive execution of our game plan and our offensive execution. I thought we hit every game goal we wanted to offensively. We didn't settle for just the three point shot, but we balanced it with rim attacks. Obviously we got to the free throw line 30 times. A goal of ours is to get over 23 free throw attempts. We took care of the ball, under 12 turnovers. We wanted to score over 72 points a game. We had, I think that says 95 today. Then offensive rebounds, we want 12 or more and we got 19, and they got four. So there is a reason why you score 95 points. You take care of the basketball, you dominate the paint, whether you are drawing fouls or you're getting to the rim."
On the crowd and students showing out...
"You know I love being a part of Gator nation, the Gator family. It's one of the greatest sport environments in college athletics. The brand is unbelieveable, so I want them coming out and supporting us. They come out to every sport here, you see them at softball, volleyball, baseball. So I love the fact that they knew it was a double header and they came to get their seats for the men's game, but I am hoping like Vivian said, you build it brick by brick and then by the time you're competing for championships, this O'Dome is sold out. That is our goal, seat by seat, fan by fan, but there is nothing like having students. It is a different atmosphere. I love the ruckus and I hope they keep coming out and supporting us."
Junior Kiyomi McMiller
On her 42-point game, and getting her three-point shot rolling early...
"I think it was big (for me to get my three-ball going early). I think it gave us all energy, just coming out and knocking that down off the jump. From the beginning our mindset was to kill 'em and don't stop. Just keep attacking them, and attacking them, and attacking them … Just keep going until they stop me. It just feels like you can't miss. Anything you put up is going in."
Junior Vivian Iwuchukwu
On her role in the team's offense...
Post Game Press Conference: Head Coach Tammi Reiss, Vivian Iwuchukwu and Kiyomi McMiller"It all started from the summer time. Obviously, this is a new role for me, but the coaches really prepared me to excel in the role. All summer, I really worked on that. Worked on my craft, my game, one on one, knowing when to kick it out. But I'm molding in it so well because I prepared all summer for it."
