
Beatriz Bezerra Takes Several Podium Finishes at the Brazilian Open Championships

Sophomore Beatriz Bezerra returned to her home country of Brazil to compete in the Campeonato Brasileiro Absoluto Maria Lenk competition, also known as the Brazilian Open Championships.
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Like many other elite swimmers, Florida's Beatriz Bezerra is taking the offseason to compete in competitions around the world. Her latest meet took her back home to Brazil to compete in the Brazilian Open Championships.
In this competition, Bezerra swam for her club team Esporte Clube Pinheiros SP. Competing in seven events, Bezerra was able to take a podium finish in six of her events. Her races included the women's 400m free relay, the 400m mixed IM relay, the 50m free, 100m free, 50m fly, 100m fly and 50m back.
Bezerra competed in five individual events in the competition, taking a podium finish in four of them. In her usual strokes of fly and free, Bezerra was able to take third place in both the 50m fly and 100m fly, fourth place in the 100m free and seventh place in the 50m free. She was also earned a new personal best on the 100m free, dropping her time from 55.85 to 55.50. The only event Bezerra did not podium on was the 50m back, where she swam a time of 29.94.
In addition to her individual races, Bezerra also competed in two relays for her team. Bezerra swam the third leg of the 400m mixed IM relay, which was the fly portion of the relay. Bezerra was able to help the team take first place with a split of 1:00.23 and a total time of 3:48.48. She also led off the women's 400m free relay, where she earned a 56.35 split for the team's time of 3:44.68 to take third place.
The Esporte Clube Pinheiros SP team collected a total of 31 medals in the competition, taking 12 gold, seven silver and 12 bronze to win the overall competition with 2,310 points. Bezerra took home four medals, one gold and three bronze for her efforts and a second-place finish for the women's team with 1,106 points.
