Five swimmers lead the way in Gators’ victory over the Commodores

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Florida women's swimming kicked off their 2026-27 season with a victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Centennial Sportsplex. The No. 10 Gators finished 206-55 over the Commodores.

The women posted 14 wins in their 14 scored swimming events with senior Catie Choate, juniors Beatriz Bezerra and Julie Brousseau and freshman Maddie Moreth and Valentina Procaccini all finishing first in two individual events. Additionally, 14 Gators grabbed the second-place spot in the 14 women's swimming events.

Overall, 5 swimmers made their Gator debut, freshman Valentina Procaccini and Maddie Moreth posted their first collegiate wins in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle and 100 and 200 breaststroke, respectively.

Beatriz Bezerra, Julie Brousseau, Catie Choate, Maddie Moreth and Valentina Procaccini led the way individually, all scoring 18 points each towards the team total. Additionally, senior Lainy Kruger and sophomore Sylvia Statkevicius contributed a key 13 points each to the Gator victory.

Up Next
The Gators travel to Kentucky for a dual meet against the Wildcats on Oct. 3. Swimming events are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
