GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators teammates Kiyomi McMiller and Aurora Almón will square off against one another Wednesday, July 15 at the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers as they represent Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic respectively on the world basketball stage. Tip is slated for 9:30 p.m. EDT, and the game may be watched on FIBA's official YouTube channel.
Through two games at the Qualifiers, McMiller is averaging 28.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists while connecting on 47.7 percent of her field goal attempts, 35.3 percent of her shots from long distance, and 90.0 percent of her free throws. However, Nicaragua is 0-2 and in fourth place in Group A after dropping a 103-66 decision to Mexico on Sunday, July 12, and falling 73-67 to the Bahamas on Monday, July 13.
The Dominican Republic is in second place in Group A following a 72-69 victory over the Bahamas on July 12 and a 75-64 loss to Mexico on July 13. Almón was limited to just three minutes in the Bahamas game due to foul trouble, but she scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds in 26 minutes against Mexico.
The Qualifiers run from July 12-18, and feature the top eight teams from Central America and the Caribbean vying for a place in the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2027. Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic are in Group A as are Mexico and the Bahamas. Group B consists of Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Guyana and the Virgin Islands.
