Compliance - Agents

UF Policy on Agents

All student-athletes and athletic agents are required, by Florida law, to notify higher education institutions if certain contracts are entered into. In addition, ALL athletic agents must be registered with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation prior to entering into contracts with student-athletes. A student-athlete who is subject to the rules and regulations of the NCAA and who enters into an agent contract with an athletic agent, or a contract pursuant to which an athlete is employed as a professional athlete, must notify the Director of Athletics at UF that he/she has entered into such a contract.
  • It is not permissible for an enrolled student-athlete to receive money or a benefit of any kind from a sports agent or runner.
  • Do not agree (in writing or verbally) to be represented by, or receive money or a benefit of any kind from an agent or runner.
  • Student-athletes who involve themselves with agents will be ineligible for participation in intercollegiate sports.

Professional Sports Counseling Panel

The Professional Sports Counseling Panel is authorized by the NCAA and its members are appointed by the President of the University Florida. The Panel is charged with the responsibility of helping student-athletes make the transition from college-level play to the professional ranks.

The Panel assists student-athletes in the following ways:
  • Helping to realistically evaluate individual professional athletic potential
  • Providing independent information and assistance in evaluating and selecting an agent or other professional representation
  • Obtaining disability insurance
  • Preparing for a professional career in sports
The Panel members can also provide assistance in answering questions in the areas of contacts with an agent, financial management, legal considerations, and career options. The services of the panel are available to men and women athletes involved in intercollegiate athletic programs at UF. In addition, the panel will provide assistance to parents of student-athletes as requested. Should you have any questions regarding, please contact Kim Green.

What should you do if an agent contacts you?

  • Notify the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance or your head coach immediately.
  • Instruct the agent to send copies of any written information he or she has, or will provide to you, to the UAA Compliance Office at P.O. Box 14485 Gainesville, FL 32604-2485.
  • DO NOT take any money, or accept anything of value. Taking money or accepting anything of value will make you ineligible to compete.
  • Be cautious of agents using "runners" also known as "middlemen" to talk to you or give you anything of value. The same rules apply if you take money, or accept anything of value from a "runner".
  • At any time you have questions or concerns regarding agents call the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance or your head coach. The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance or your head coach will advise you.
  • If you agree before your eligibility expires to let an agent represent you right now or at a later date, you become immediately ineligible. Your collegiate athletic career at the University of Florida will be over. Furthermore, your actions could result in the forfeiture of games and NCAA penalties affecting your teammates, and coaches.
