Chad Lucas

Chad Lucas enters his third season with the Gators in the role of quality control - wide receivers after being hired prior to the 2023 season.

He spent the last four seasons (2019-22) at Bethune Cookman as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach. Prior to that, Lucas was a wide receiver coach at Alabama State for two seasons (2017-18) after a year as a skill development coordinator in 2016. It marked his second stint with his alma mater when he was the wide receivers graduate assistant from 2004-05. 

Before moving into collegiate coaching full time, Lucas was the offensive coordinator at Robert E. Lee high school in Montgomery, Ala. for three seasons (2012-14). 

Lucas has also completed multiple internships with NFL teams in mini camps working with wide receivers such as the Washington Commodores (2018), Tennessee Titans (2017) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2016). He also was a recruiting intern at Alabama in the fall of 2015. 

Prior to his coaching career, he played professional football for multiple leagues from 2004-11, including the NFL, Arena Football League, NFL Europe, CFL and United Football League. In 2006, Lucas earned All-NFL Europe honors as a member of the Amsterdam Admirals, leading them to the World Bowl XIV. He also led the league in touchdown receptions and set a league record with four touchdowns in a game with three in the first half. 

He began his collegiate career at Troy (2000-01) before finishing at Alabama State (2002-03). During his senior campaign with the Hornets, he caught 46 passes for 794 yards and five touchdowns.

Following his professional career, Lucas returned to ASU and earned his degree in marketing in 2013 and later received his master’s in sports management from California University of PA in 2019.

Lucas has one daughter, Londyn Lucas, 12.Â
