Biography

Overview
  • The 2020-21 season was Briggs' second season of college competition.
  • Named to All-SEC Second Team as a sophomore in 2021, becoming the first UF player in five years to garner the accolade.
  • Briggs was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2020, becoming the 22nd player in program history to garner the accolade and the first Gator to collect an SEC postseason honor since the 2016-17 season.
  • Averaged 19.4 points in the 2020-21 campaign, the fourth-highest scoring average by a Florida player in program history.
  • Put together one of the best rookie seasons in program history in 2020, averaging a team-best 15.0 points per game.
  • Just third player in program history to lead team in points per game in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns. First since 1981-82 and 1982-83 campaigns.

2020-21, Sophomore Season
  • All-SEC Second Team.
  • Had the highest scoring average on the team for second-straight season (19.4).
  • Before it was announced that Briggs would miss the remainder of the season due to a foot injury on Feb. 15, the Utah native put together one of the best seasons in program history and finished with the fourth-highest points per game average ever by a Gator (19.4).
  • Started UF’s first 18 games before missing the final eight due to a foot injury.
  • In conference play, Briggs increased her scoring average to 21.8 points per game which trailed only Arkansas senior Chelsea Dungee in the talent-rich SEC.
  • Briggs' scoring average in SEC play (21.8) was the highest by a Florida player since the 1982-83 season when former All-American and 1992 Olympian Tammy Jackson averaged 22.0.
  • Became the first Florida player since Ronni Williams in 2016 to collect All-SEC team honors.
  • Tallied 20 or more points nine times, including five such games in SEC play.
  • Led the Gators in scoring 13 times, notching the second highest rebounds per game average on team (6.5).
  • Collected four double-doubles and scored in double figures in 17 of her 18 games played.
  • Poured in a career-best 41 points at Arkansas (1/14/21) - the fourth-most ever by a Florida player and the most by a sophomore in program history.

  • Became fastest UF player to score 500 career points in 14 years (34 games) when she added 14 points in the Gators’ win over FAU (12/7/20).
  • Dished out a season-high seven assists in Florida’s win over UNF (12/21/20).
  • Hauled in a season-best 12 rebounds in Florida’s season opener against Grambling State (11/25/20).
2019-20, Freshman Season
  • SEC All-Freshman Team.
  • Double figures in 26 of 29 games played; led team in scoring 16 times.
  • Scored 435 points which were the fifth-most points tallied by a freshman in program history.
  • Finished with the highest scoring average by any UF freshman since the 1991-92 season when the team’s eventual all-time leading scorer Merlakia Jones averaged 15.1.
  • Led SEC in minutes played at 34.7, first freshman to lead league in minutes in over 20 years.
  • Became just the second freshman in the last 20 years of Florida women’s basketball to lead the team in scoring.
  • Compiled seven double-doubles, the most by any UF freshman since the 2000-01 season.
  • Scored 19 or more points in eight games and 20 or more in five contests.
  • First UF freshman since 2002-03 season to average 13 or more points, finish in double figures three times and post two double-doubles in their first four career games.
  • Posted back-to-back double-doubles in UF’s wins over Longwood and Samford in November.
  • Briggs became the first Florida freshmen since Vanessa Hayden in 2001 to record three double-doubles in her first seven games of her career.
  • Exploded for 23 points vs. Wake Forest on Dec. 21 at the West Palm Beach Classic.
  • The Utah native scored 10 or more points in 14 straight games (snapped vs. UK on Jan. 12) - UF's longest streak since the 2000-01 season.
  • Tallied 18 points, all in the second half, and added a season-best 13 rebounds in UF’s upset win at No. 13 Kentucky.
  • After averaging 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists and leading the Gators to wins over Ole Miss and Mizzou, Lavender Briggs was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 18. It was UF's first Freshman of the Week honor since Feb. 14, 2017.
  • Briggs poured in 23 points in Florida's gritty win over Ole Miss on Feb. 13, tying her career high (23, vs. Wake Forest). Knocked down 11 free throws in the victory.
  • Posted 20 points in Florida’s win over No. 22 Arkansas.
  • Led the squad with 22 points in its SEC Tournament matchup with LSU on March 5, drilling three 3-pointers.
  • Finished with 20 or more points in three of last five games.
Prep
  • Finished her senior season with averages of 32.2 points (a state record) and 12.5 rebounds per game.
  • Became the first Florida women’s basketball player ever to play in the Jordan Brand Classic (2019).
  • Member of the 2018-19 All-USA Utah First Team.
  • Set the state record for most points scored in a single season, finishing with 683 in the 2018-19 campaign.
  • Her 1,908 career points scored were the second most in state history, trailing just Julie Krommenhoek's 2,384.
  • Broke the state of Utah's record of points scored in a single game (53) which included a 32-point half which is also a state record. 
  • 2019 McDonald's All-American Game nominee.
  • Guided Provo to a trip to the Class 5A state quarterfinals in 2019.
  • Ranked No. 14 in terms of guards and was the No. 48 overall prospect in ESPN’s 2019 rankings.
  • Following her junior season, she was tabbed as the All-Valley Defensive Player of the Year, All-Region MVP Region 8 and USA Today First-Team Utah honors.
  • Averaged 25.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game as a junior.
  • Two-time First-Team 4A All-State performer receiving the honor in 2017 and 2018.
  • Participant in the 2018 U17 U.S National Team trials.
  • Played two seasons at Provo High School, finishing with 1,057 in just 37 games played. 
  • Played her first two seasons of high school ball at Mountain View High School.

  • Native of Provo, Utah.
  • Born in Newburgh, N.Y. and lived there before moving to Utah at age 7.
  • Was coached by her mom and often played up several grade levels growing up.
