Dave Klatsky joined Florida’s coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2025 following three seasons as head coach at New York University. In Klatsky’s first season on staff, the Gators claimed the 2026 SEC championship and earned a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
In 2025-26, Florida earned the eighth SEC championship in program history. The Gators posted a 16-2 league record, marking the team’s second-most SEC wins in program history (18, 2014). The Gators led the nation in rebounding margin (+14.7), offensive rebounding (15.9) and rebounding (45.1), and finished second in offensive rebounding percentage (43.3%). The Gators’ +17.0 scoring margin in SEC play was the second-highest of any SEC team this century, behind only Florida’s +17.6 margin in 2012-13.
The Gators posted a 16-2 SEC record, clearing the field by a three-game margin as Todd Golden earned his first career SEC Coach of the Year honor and was a semifinalist for Naismith Coach of the Year. The 16 SEC wins marked the second-most in program history, behind only UF’s 18 in in 2014.
With the team success came myriad individual honors, as leading scorer Thomas Haugh earned All-American and first-team All-SEC honors. Rueben Chinyelu set program records for double-doubles (19) and offensive rebounds (137) on the way to Naismith and NABC Defensive Player of the Year honors, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team recognition. Alex Condon also garnered All-SEC honors, and Urban Klavžar was named SEC Sixth-Man of the Year.
While at NYU, Klatsky compiled a 68-16 record and reached the 2025 Division III national championship game. The Violets’ 29 wins and 13 conference wins set program records, as did the team’s total points (2,508) and assists (526). Nationally, the Violets ranked second in scoring margin (17.0), fourth in field goal percentage (.491), and eighth in three-point percentage defense (.279).
The team's success in '24-25 also resulted in Klatsky being named National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Region IV Coach of the Year, D3hoops.com Coach of the Year, Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Coach of the Year, as well as the conference’s Coaching Staff of the Year.
NYU posted a 21-6 record in 2023-24, won the team’s first conference title in 30 years and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The team finished seventh nationally with a .390 3-point field goal percentage, and Spencer Freedman was named D3hoops.com national player of the year, conference player of the year and an NABC third-team All-American.
In his first season at the helm, Klatsky led NYU to its first NCAA Tournament in seven years and posted 18 wins, the most by a first-year coach in program history. Klatsky and his staff earned conference Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
Klatsky came to NYU after an 11-year tenure as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Colgate University, helping lead the program to Patriot League Tournament titles in three of his last four seasons there.
At Colgate, under three-time Patriot League Coach of the Year Matt Langel, Klatsky had numerous responsibilities including scouting, practice and game planning, recruiting and analyzing advanced statistics. He was the primary recruiter of four All-League selections and two Defensive Players of the Year while directing Colgate's Elite Prospect Camp.
The Raiders' three Patriot League Tournament titles (2019, '21, '22) were their first since 1996. Klatsky helped grow the program from eight wins in his first season to an all-time best 25 victories in 2019-20. His extensive player development resulted in 10 All-League honorees over the past six seasons.
Prior to Colgate, Klatsky served as an assistant coach at Stevens Institute of Technology from 2007-11. While there, he played a key role in all facets of the program, helping guide the Ducks to their first-ever ECAC Metro Championships (2008, '11).
Klatsky, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a concentration in Finance and Accounting from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003, played for storied coach Fran Dunphy from 1999-2003. He set the program's then-single-season assist record in 2000-01.
After graduating from Penn, Klatsky worked as an equity analyst and trader in Manhattan and Jersey City, NJ. He is also the creator of StatChat, a podcast centered around how different programs utilize advanced statistics, and mentored a Colgate student in developing the startup company ShotQuality which measures the expected value of all shots attempted.
Klatsky is a native of Holmdel, N.J. He is married to Abby, and they have three children: Harrison, Leo and William.
