Gators Battle to Fifth Place Finish After Day One of Shoal Creek Intercollegiate

Three Gators claimed spots in the top-25 as the squad muscled out a fifth place finish after two rounds of play today at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate.
After experiencing a morning rain shower that caused a slight delay, the Gators struggled and found themselves in 10th place, 8-over after the first 18 holes of action.
Luckily round two brought new life to the team, as juniors J.D. Tomlinson and Thomas Stewart both notched top-10 finishes on the afternoon. Tomlinson matched his career-best, shooting a low round of 68 which included five birdies to end the day T8 (-3). Stewart had a phenomenal performance as well, making five birdies and an eagle in round two to shoot 68 for a tenth place effort. Freshman Victor Tarnstrom shot a 69 with six birdies in the second round to battle his way for a shared spot in 21st, ending one-over today.
Buddy's Bite: “We had our first good round of the year. That's a positive and definitely broke the ice for us. Thomas Stewart played great this afternoon in his first start in the top-five. Victor Tarnstrom came on with a nice round as well and J.D. Tomlinson played a terrific afternoon round. He's been very consistent. We had a good solid round this afternoon to get us back in the golf tournament. Feels good. Hopefully it's the start of many more; we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
