Florida Men's Golf Tied for Second After First Round of Wolf Run Intercollegiate

The Florida men's golf team surged to a runner-up performance following the opening round of the Wolf Run Intercollegiate before storms in Zionsville, Ind., cut play in the second round short. The Gators shot an 11-over 295 in Round 1 to share the second-place position with Chattanooga. The pair trails No. 2 Illinois, which finished the first round with a 10-stroke lead.
Sophomore Ryan Orr shot even (71) to lead the Gators and earn a piece of a six-way tie for third in the individual contest. After a shaky start, he birdied six holes to sit only one stroke back of co-leaders Brian Campbell (Illinois) and Scott Cahill (Miami (OH)).
The teams will wrap up Round 2 and play the third and final round Sunday at the 71-par Wolf Run Golf Club course, where the action begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

On the Gators' opening round at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate:
“Compared to everyone else, we did pretty well today. It wasn't where we want to be, but it was definitely going in the right direction.”
“(Ryan) Orr's 71 was awesome. Having the high score be 75 was nice and showed that we are moving in the right direction.”
On Ryan Orr coming back from a tough start to lead the team:
“He's got a great demeanor and doesn't get too down on himself. I was really proud of him for fighting back and shooting even.”
On the mentality entering the second and final day of the tournament:
“It's continuing to keep building and working on things. I think all of us are starting the feel a little momentum.”
