Ryan Orr In Solid Position to Advance to Final Round of NCAA Championship
Sunday, May 31, 2015 | Men's Golf
University of Florida sophomore men's golfer Ryan Orr posted a 1-over 73 on Sunday to position himself well to advance to the final round of stroke play at the NCAA Championship. Play at The Concession Golf Club was halted due to lightning before the third round was completed and the cut was made.
Nine teams and six individuals were unable to finish before the weather suspended play for the day. Third-round play will resume at 7 a.m. on Monday, after which the field will then be cut to the top-15 teams and top-nine individuals not on advancing teams.
Round 4 will tee off 30-45 minutes after any team and/or individual playoffs, but not before 10 a.m.
The Gators finished Sunday's round with a score of +20 (308). They have totaled a 46-over 910 for the tournament and were led once again by Orr, who has a team-best 54-hole score of 2-over 218.
J.D. Tomlinson and Eric Banks recorded a 9-over 81 and 4-over 76, respectively. The pair of seniors is tied with a total of 15-over 231.
Ryan Celano shot +8 (80), while A.J. Crouch contributed a 7-over 79. They are tied with a score of +18 (234).
Monday's fourth round will consist of the final 18 holes of stroke play to determine the individual national champion. The top-eight teams following the round will advance to match play to decide the team champion.

Head Coach JC Deacon:
On the tournament overall:
“It was a tough week and obviously not the way the team wanted to finish. It hurts to shoot scores like that, but I think when you look back on how far we've come in the last year – it's almost a year for me now – it's pretty cool. We got the chance to play in a national championship. Ryan Orr and Ryan Celano, the young guys, got to see what it's all about and hopefully this leaves them really hungry going forward”
On Ryan Orr:
“I ended up walking around with him today and got to see him play the whole round. He played with the No. 1 player in college golf, John Rahm, and he's right there with him. He's hitting the ball unbelievable, and his poise is beyond his years. He's ready to make the next step, so I'm excited for his future.”
