Gators Begin Play at NCAA Championship on Friday

SUGAR GROVE, Illinois – The University of Florida's women's golf team will begin play at the NCAA Championship on Friday. The No. 3 Gators will face off against 16 top-25 ranked teams during the six-day event from May 19-24.
This year marks the 26th NCAA Championship appearance for the Gators. UF won back-to-back NCAA Titles in 1985 and 1986.
Each school will play 54 holes of stroke play, with the top-15 teams advancing to the fourth and final round of stroke play on Monday. The top-eight teams after Monday's round will advance to the match play portion of the tournament.
The match play quarterfinals and semifinals will take place Tuesday, May 23, followed by the championship match on Wednesday, May 24.
At the 2016 NCAA Championship, Florida finished in 17th place at 22-over (886). Individually, Kelly Grassel tied for 20th, the highest individual finish by a Gator in the NCAA Championship since Andrea Watts finished tied for 15th in 2011.
The Gators are coming off a win at the NCAA Columbus Regional, where they took home a share of the title with South Carolina. It was the program's second-straight regional title and the third regional win in program history.
Grassel led the Orange and Blue, winning a share of the individual crown. The senior carded an even-par (216) to record her second-career collegiate victory and her first since the 2016 Florida Challenge.
Course Information: The tournament is being held at the Par 72, 6,343 yards Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds over three days – Top 15 teams advance
18-hole stroke play – Top 8 teams advance to match play.
Coverage: Golf Channel will air live coverage of the final round of stroke play and each of the three match play rounds.

Senior Maria Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico): Moved up 11 spots during the final round of the NCAA Regional to finish the tournament in a tie for 26th at 11-over (227).
Junior Taylor Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.): Finished in a tie for 30th (12-over, 228) at the NCAA Regional.
Senior Karolina Vlckova (Unhošt, Czech Republic): Carded a 14-over (230) at the NCAA Regional to finish in a tie for 37th.
