Three Gators in top 10 on the leaderboard.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- With the help of a record-breaking 279 in the first round, Florida finished the first day of the Gator Invitational with a five-shot lead.
The 279 (-1) broke a 7-year-old first-round scoring record. It helped the Gators to a six-shot lead heading into the second round.
They maintained their distance from the rest of the field throughout the second round. At one point, Florida had a lead of 14 strokes but Campbell closed the gap after carding a new tournament record of 276 (-4) in the second round.
The Gators two-round score of 559 (-1) is the lowest 36-hole score in the tournament's 46-year history.
Florida will have three players start the final round in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Sierra Brooks carded a pair of 1-under rounds as she sits tied for third and four shots off the lead.
Redshirt freshman Elin Esbron is one shot back of her after carding a season-low round of 68 in the second round. This is the first time Esborn has gone sub 70 in her Florida career.
Freshman Addie Baggarly also went sub 70 for the first time with a 2-under (68) in the first round of the day. Baggarly was tied for the lead after 18 and sits tied for sixth heading into Sunday at even par.
The final round is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. (ET) with the Gators paired with Campbell and Tennessee. Tomorrow's round will be another shotgun start.
Coach's Take:
On the day overall -- "Overall a solid day. I'm really happy with how composed we were out of the gate this morning. It can be a nerve racking day but we did a good job managing our emotions." -- Coach Emily Glaser
On the second round of play -- "This afternoon we had a nice round going but, had some metal errors coming in which was unfortunate. A good learning lesson for us on staying focused for the whole day, which can be a difficult task on 36 hole days." -- Coach Glaser
"Tomorrow will be an exciting day and a great opportunity for our team. We need to trust our preparation and enjoy the moment." -- Coach Glaser
