Tuesday, April 23, 2019 | Men's Golf
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators men's golf team begins post-season play tomorrow in St. Simons Island, Georgia for the SEC Championships.
Florida fell to Alabama 1-1-3 in the semifinals of the 2018 SEC Championships after finishing T2 in the stroke play portion and defeating Ole Miss 3-2 in the quarterfinals. Then-sophomore Andy Zhang went on to win the individual title.
The Gators are coming off one of their best rounds of the season at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate last week in Ohio. The team was one of only two that shot a tournament-best 277 in the final round Saturday. Florida had their best finish of the season, getting to 3rd on the leaderboard, just eight strokes off the winner and host, Ohio State.
Course Information: The 2019 SEC Championships will take place at the par 70, 7,005 yard Seaside Course at the Sea Island Golf Club on St. Simons Island. This marks the 19th year for the Southeastern Conference Championship to be contested on the Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course. Since 1927, the Sea Island Golf Club has enjoyed a legacy as one of America's premier golf clubs.
Format: The Championships will be played over the course of five days. The first three days, Wednesday-Friday, will be three rounds of stroke play where the top eight teams at the conclusion will advance to match play on Saturday and Sunday. All eight teams will play the quarterfinals matches on Saturday and the four winning teams will advance to the semifinals and championship matches on Sunday.
Coach's Take
"We've worked really hard this year to be ready for this tournament. The SEC Championship is such an exciting event. I'm encouraged with the form our guys are starting to show. We are playing the best golf we've played all year and the timing couldn't be any better. It's time to shine!" – Head Coach JC Deacon
