Gators Head into Final Round of Fall Schedule
Monday, November 9, 2020 | Men's Golf
Florida looks to move up the leaderboard in their final tournament of the fall season.
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. – The Florida men's golf team completed the second round of play at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, posting an overall score of 561 over two rounds and sitting in ninth place.
Freshman Joe Pagdin still leads the way for the Gators after posting a second consecutive round under par. The England native has shown his leadership on the course after battling back and posting three bogeys against four birdies to finish 1-under on the day. He joins sophomore Ricky Castillo as the only Gators to post under par scores in the second round.
Ricky Castillo looked to bounce back today, posting a 1-under par 69 on the day. The sophomore phenom found relaxation as his round concluded, carding two birdies within his last four holes to finish the day 1-under par and 2-over par overall.
Giovanni Manzoni finished the day 1-over par and even overall. The junior transfer posted a scorecard that recorded two back-to-back bogeys at the beginning of play before settling in. A birdie on the first hole put him back in contention and in a tie for 29th individually.
Fred Biondi and Tyler Wilkes rounded out the Florida lineup. The duo posted round two scores of 2-over and 4-over, respectively, and now sit in a tie for 39th and 58th, respectively.
Head Coach JC Deacon's Take
On today's scorecard…
"I'm extremely please with our finish today. We had six birdies and no bogies as a team over the final five holes. That's absolutely huge to stay in the tournament and it gives us a great tee time, firs off No. 1 tomorrow morning, which makes all the difference at Old Overton. The three hardest holes on the course are 10, 11 and 12, and we've had to start right there the past two rounds. It makes things extremely difficult."
On his expectations…
"After that great finish, we have a chance to ride the momentum and put up a great final round. I know this team is really close. One day of hot putting and we can move right up the leaderboard. I'm excited to watch our guys attack the final round of our fall season. Go Gators!"
