Gators Look to Move Up the Leaderboard After First Round

The Florida men’s golf team is in a tie for sixth place after 18 holes of play.
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Florida men's golf team sits in a tie for sixth place at the conclusion of the first round at the LSU Invitational.
Fred Biondi led the charge for the Gators in the first day of competition. The redshirt sophomore posted a bogey-free front nine before facing the challenges of the final nine holes and finished the day at even par. He currently sits in the top-10 individually.
Tyler Wilkes continued his hot streak, joining Biondi in posting a bogey-free front nine and finishing 2-over par on the day. The freshman is currently tied for 16th individually.
Yuxin Lin completed the first round with a 3-over par 75 and in a tie for 27th place.
Ricky Castillo and Joe Pagdin rounded out the Gators lineup.
As an individual, John DuBois carded an even 72 and sits in a tie for 7th, joining Florida teammate Fred Biondi.
The Florida men's golf team will hit the course tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. ET looking to climb the leaderboard.
Head Coach JC Deacon's Take
On his thoughts following today's round…
"We had a tough start to the day and made some mistakes before the round even started. We didn't have our minds exactly where they needed to be to play great. We had it going halfway decent through 12 holes and just made far too many mistakes coming in. If we are going to be the championship team that we all believe we can be, we have to find a way to limit the big numbers. Just way too many big mistakes."
On the positive takeaway from today…
"I'm really happy with the way Fred (Biondi) and Tyler (Wilkes) played today. Both of them made a ton of quality shots and I expect Yuxin (Lin), Ricky (Castillo) and Joe (Pagdin) to bounce back with big rounds tomorrow."
