
Three Gators Named to the SEC Weekly Awards

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators earn their first SEC Weekly Award nods with three players being honored for different position groups.
DJ Lagway was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week. The sophomore starting quarterback had his best game of the season against No. 9 Texas, where he threw for 298 yards with 21 completed passes off of 28 attempts. Lagway tossed two touchdown passes to freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson and is the only quarterback in the conference to complete 75% of his passes while throwing more than 250 yards and for multiple touchdowns in a conference game this season.
Wilson made headlines this week in his first career start, after hauling in two touchdown passes and 111 receiving yards on six receptions. His highlight play was a third quarter touchdown after a catching a 55-yard pass from Lagway. For his performance against Texas, Wilson earned the SEC Freshman of the Week Award.
Taylor Spierto also brought in an SEC Weekly Award being the SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, sharing the award with Oklahoma's punter Tate Sandell. The play that earned Spierto the award came in the second quarter, when he blocked Texas's punt for a safety and tacked on two more points to get the Gators a 29-21 win.
