GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida and Florida State renew their in-state rivalry this Thursday, Nov. 20 as the Gators host the Seminoles at 6:30 p.m. EST at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
The Florida-Florida State series dates back to the 1974-75 season, which was the very first year of competition for the Gators. Since that time, the teams have met on 78 occasions, which is by far the most games that Florida has played against a non-SEC opponent.
The Gators own the series record at 42-36, including a 20-12 mark at home, however, Florida State has won each of the last three meetings. The last time the teams met was on Nov. 22, 2024, when the Seminoles topped Florida, 98-74, in Tallahassee. Liv McGill poured in what was then a career-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field, while RA Shaye Kyle added a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double. Florida State wore out a path to the free throw line, making 35 of 40 on the day.
More recently, Florida was without McGill due to an injury in the team's Nov. 16 loss at Navy. That defeat snapped the Gators season-opening, four-game winning streak. In McGill's stead, Florida was led by Laila Reynolds' 19 points and five assists, while Me'Arah O'Neal added 14 points and six rebounds, and freshman Nyadieng Yiech scored 12 points and grabbed five boards.
Florida State is 3-2 on the year following a, 76-72, loss to Indiana Sunday evening. Four different Seminoles are averaging in double figures despite the fact that no player on the roster is averaging more than 27 minutes per game. Junior Texas A&M transfer Solé Williams is the team's leading scorer at 17.5 points per game. She also connects on 52.2 percent of her field goal attempts, and 50 percent (12 of 24) of her three-pointers, however she missed the Indiana game with an injury sustained in the game prior vs. Nicholls State.
