Lawson Mashes Way to SEC Player of the Week Honors

Shortstop Brendan Lawson batted .571/.667/1.071 with two homers and 12 RBI over four games.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Following two-game sweeps of FIU and No. 17 Miami, Florida shortstop Brendan Lawson was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Collecting honors alongside Temo Becerra of Texas, Lawson brings home the first SEC Player of the Week nod of his collegiate career. The Toronto, Ontario native was the SEC Freshman of the Week on two separate occasions last season (Feb. 24, April 21).
Starting all four games for the Orange & Blue in a 4-0 week, Lawson slashed .571/.667/1.071 while going 8-for-14 at the plate and leading the team in every slash category. He totaled a team-high 15 total bases and 12 RBI on top of two home runs, one double and seven runs scored.
The UF shortstop also drew two walks and two hit-by-pitches while only striking out once. Lawson drove in multiple runs in three of four games and posted a 1.000 fielding percentage over six chances at shortstop.
On the season, Lawson is hitting a robust .474/.636/.921 with four homers, 21 RBI, 16 runs, two steals and a 1.557 OPS. He paces the Gators in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, home runs, RBI, stolen bases and OPS while ranking ninth nationally in RBI.
Lawson and the Gators carry their longest win streak (11 games) since the 2020 season into a 10-game homestand, beginning with a Tuesday matchup against FAU at 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.
