Injury Risk and Performance Strategies

Athlete injury reduction, performance benchmarking, and longitudinal strategies can provide helpful insights within the physical development of a team. While our goal is not to predict injuries, our specific series of testing measurements are used to identify injury risk and performance metrics during the off-season, pre-season, and postseason. Performance metrics such as force plate jumping can , and isometric testing can yield an array of information which is then sent to our elite Strength and Conditioning Staff for evaluation and implementation.

  • Epidemiology of Injuries and Injury History
  • Structured Modality Identifiers of Injury Risk and Performance
  • Off-Season, Pre-Season, Post-Season Testing Availability
  • Data Reporting and Data Summaries

Technology

Workload Monitoring

Catapult is a Workload monitoring system used to track a range of sport-specific metrics. The system uses GPS (Global Positioning Systems) and LPS (Local Positioning Systems) to track athletic activity during conditioning, practices, and games providing detailed analytics to maximize athletic performance.

Uses:

  • Assist in making informed sport/position specific decisions
  • Assist in tactical insights and practice structure to optimize performance.
  • Assist with periodization, programming and conditioning design.

Motion Capture

Dari Motion's Markerless Motion Capture produces movement screen analysis utilizing multiple high speed cameras to track an athlete's movement pattern. Osteokinematics of the athlete’s body is then produced and created into visual reports and quantitative data.

Uses:

  • Pre Season, and Post Season Screenings
  • Return to Sport Protocols
  • Individual or Team Benchmark Testing

Performance Testing

VALD has an array of products used to capture force output, muscular imbalances, asymmetries, and range of motion. Strength, power, movement, and balance, are key contributors to performance optimization and injury prevention. Identifying these adaptations through various training modalities provides our staff with accurate quantitative data.

Uses:

  • Force Output: (ex. Concentric, Isometric, Eccentric Testing: Force Frame, Nordbord)
  • Power: Force Plate Testing (ex. Countermovement Jumps: Force Decks)
  • Range of Motion and Asymmetries: Handheld Dynamometry (ex. ASH Protocols)
  • Acceleration/ Deceleration and Fatigue: Force Plate Testing (ex. Drop Jump)
  • Functional Movement Testing: Force Plate: (ex. Single Leg Land and Hold)

AI-Powered Athletics

Projects and Research

Mission: To build an infrastructure and interdisciplinary team needed to bring AI-Powered Athletics to the field, laboratory, and classroom.

What the Project is: AI-Powered Athletics leverages athlete and sport data to efficiently gain advanced insights and inform decisions that may help reduce time loss injuries, facilitate the health & well-being of our student-athletes, and optimize individual athlete & team performances.

Research Submissions

The University Athletic Association has designated a research sub-committee (RSC) of the Medical Advisory Committee to review research proposals. The RSC is comprised of two orthopedic surgeons, two primary care sports medicine physicians, two athletic trainers, and one administrator.

Opportunities / Internships

The University Athletic Association is searching for reliable, professional, hardworking, and ambitious APK and HEB students interested in enhancing their experience in human performance. You will be immersed into the professions of Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Training, and Sports Dietetics. During this time, you will be exposed to a variety of UF sports teams that represent one of the top athletics programs in the country. Excelling as a sports health performance immersive student will provide a firm foundation for a holistic approach within a sports performance model. Creating future career opportunities in human performance and optimization.
