A first round draft pick in the 2000 NBA Draft (22nd overall) by the New York Knicks… Joined Mike Miller as the only Gator duo to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft in the same year.
A relentless rebounder with long arms and great leaping ability… Left-handed… Has an 83-inch wingspan… Goes to the rim with authority and can trigger the break… Was considered by many recruiting services to be the nation's No. 1 high school player as senior in high school… One of the most decorated prep stars to sign a national letter of intent to attend Florida… Gained a reputation as one of the top prep rebounders in the country who played hard every time he stepped on the court… Has been compared to Michael Cage and Dennis Rodman (without the tatoos)…
AS A FRESHMAN IN 1999-2000- One of five players named to Basketball News All-Freshmen Team… Named to SEC All-Freshmen Team (Coaches')… Second-team selection to NABC District VI Team… The back-up at center who also started nine games… Was the first sub off the bench a team-high 13 times… Led the team in rebounding (7.0 rpg)… 258 total rebounds was a UF freshmen record… Became the first UF freshmen in 13 years to lead the team in rebounding (Dwayne Schintzius in 1987)… Overall was just the fifth Gator frosh to lead the team in rebounding… Also led the team in dunks (36) and double doubles (6)… Led UF in rebounding in 19 of 37 games… Had 21 double figure scoring games and led UF in scoring in four contests… Set a UF NCAA Tournament record with eight blocked shots in the Tournament… Third-leading scorer on squad (10.1 ppg) despite ranking sixth on squad in minutes (20.2 mpg)… Averaged 13.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg in SEC Tournament… Led team in scoring in home games (12.9 ppg)… Also averaged 8.7 rpg at home… Shot .627 (32-of-51) from the field in six game stretch in December… Had a career-high 22 points vs. VMI… 15 rebounds vs. High Point was most by a UF frosh in 17 years and sixth best by a frosh in school history… Had first career double double vs. New Hampshire… Came off the bench for the first three games of the year and then started nine straight… Saw limited action in the SEC opener (Vanderbilt) after missing some holiday practices due to family matters… Finished the year 9-of-last-11 from the line… Was 27-of-42 (.643) from the field during a six-game stretch… Preseason accolades include: Listed as the 18th best power forward in the nation by The Sporting News… Picked Newcomer of the Year in the SEC by Basketball News… One of 12 Dick's Dandy Dozen Diaper Dandies by Dick Vitale's College Basketball…
PREP- A 1999 graduate of Randolph Clay High School where he was coached by Joe Williams… The 1999 Naismith Prep Basketball Player of the Year and the 1999 USA Today Prep Basketball Player of the Year… 1999 McDonald's All-American… USA Today and Parade All-American… Won the slam dunk contest at the McDonald's All-American All-Star Game in Ames, Iowa… 1999 Mr. Basketball for Georgia… Finished his high school career with 1,736 points, 1,334 rebounds, 319 blocked shots and 289 assists… .Point, rebound and blocked shot totals were all school records… Team went 95-20 in his career… Averaged 23.3 ppg, 14.0 rpg, 5.0 assists and 3.5 blocked shots as a senior… Had game highs of 38 points and 27 rebounds as a senior… Led the Red Devils to a 26-6 record and within one win of the Class 2A Championship… Also selected to play in the Magic RoundBall Classic in Michigan in April, but did not play after suffering a hairline fracture in his left leg in the McDonald's All-Star Game… Chose Florida over Auburn and Georgia… Signed with the Gators on April 21st… AAU coach was Wallace Prather…
