Muschamp views Pease's background as a plus in recruiting and QB development

Like his predecessor, Charlie Weis, new Gators offensive coordinator Brent Pease will also serve as Florida's quarterbacks coach.
Pease has plenty of experience in that role and played the position at Walla Walla (Wash.) Junior College and the University of Montana. An 11th-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 1987, Pease played in the NFL with the Houston Oilers.
He inherits an offense that features two sophomore quarterbacks vying to make their mark next season in Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel.
Florida coach Will Muschamp is confident that Brissett and Driskel are in good hands.
“That's really his expertise,'' Muschamp said. “Here is a guy who played in the National Football League and you have to look at the development of the players he has coached.”
While serving as an assistant at Montana, Pease tutored quarterbacks Dave Dickenson and his successor Brian Ah Yat. Both rewrote Montana's record books and Dickenson led the Grizzlies to the 1995 Division I-AA national title and later became a star in the Canadian Football League.
Pease also worked extensively with Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore over the last four seasons as Moore broke numerous school and conference records.
Pease is expected to arrive at UF on Friday and will immediately hit the road recruiting leading up to National Signing Day on Feb. 2. Muschamp said Wednesday that Pease has experience recruiting the state of Florida and that his primary focus will be on quarterbacks and playmakers.
“We've got signing day coming up in three weeks and it's a critical time for us to finish strong,'' Muschamp said. “[This hire] should certainly be attractive to all offensive players. He coached a lot of guys to go onto the NFL. The recruiting landscape for us is much different, the type of players that we are going to be able to attract.
“What a great opportunity for development as a player that he can provide for you.”
