Axelsen, Neale and Tosti all in top 10 on leaderboard
ISLEWORTH, Fla. -- With the help of the lowest round of the day, the Gators (-9) are in second and two back of the lead at the Tavistock Collegiate.
For the second straight round, Florida tore up the back nine at Isleworth Country Club turning in a seven-under-par score on Monday.
The Gators are 18-under-par on holes 10-18 in the first 36 holes of competition. Florida sits two shots of the leader, Illinois (-11).
The surge on the back was helped by junior Gordon Neale who poured in five birdies en route to a 67 (-5) day. Neale jumped up 20 spots on the leaderboard as he now sits tied for second.
Also tied for second on the leaderboard, John Axelsen who shot 72 (E) to remain at five-under par for the tournament.
Senior Alejandro Tosti joins Axelsen and Neale in the top 10. For the second straight day, Tosti carded a one-under round and is tied for seventh at two-under.
The final round starts tomorrow morning 8:00 a.m. (ET) from Isleworth Country Club.
Coach's Take
On Gators play in round two -- "Today was possibly my favorite day of the season to date. We did not get off to an ideal start but, we constantly talk about being patient, disciplined, and emotionally controlled. We were the epitome of those championship traits on our back nine. It was a complete five man effort, as a coach you've got to love that."
On the Gators position after two rounds -- "I am excited for the guys as they've played themselves into another great position. To have the opportunity to compete for the Tavistock Collegiate title tomorrow is exactly why we work so hard." -coach J.C. Deacon
