Two-under round places Won Jun Lee 14th on leaderboard
NORTH PLAINS, Ore. -- A combined 12 birdies for freshmen Won Jun Lee and Chris Nido helped them finish under par for the day.
The first year players were the only two Gators to finish below par as Florida finished fifth at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational.
Nido was hot at the start carding birdies on his first four holes of the round. At the turn, Nido was at three-under for the day before eventually carding a 69 (-2).
He was one of the biggest movers of the round jumping up 16 spots to finish tied for 39th in the competition.
Lee, who also finished two-under on Tuesday, was the Gators highest finisher on the leaderboard as he tied for 14th at five-under. After a one-over first round, Lee was a combined six-under over the last 36 holes.
Andy Zhang would join Lee under par for the tournament as his one-under 54 holes tied him for 27th in the competition.
Coach's Take
On play of freshmen -- "We got two massive rounds from our freshmen today. Won Jun and Chris really came to play. We knew coming into this year the young guys were going to have to step up. It's amazing to see them doing it."
On tournament as a whole -- "Overall, we just didn't have our best this week. To beat the caliber of teams we played this week you need to perform at a high level. We just didn't have it. I'm still very proud of the guys fight and grinding out that 5th place finish."
On continuing to improve -- "We look forward to getting back to Gainesville and working on all the lessons we've learned the past two weeks. It's been a great start to the year, can't wait to see where the journey takes us." - Coach J.C. Deacon
