Florida Faces Tough First Day at NCAA Regional
Monday, May 15, 2017 | Men's Golf
WEST LAFAYETTE, In. – The Florida's men's golf team had a tough opening round at the West Lafayette Regional on Monday. Florida shot a four-over 292 to finish day one in a tie for fifth.
Junior Alejandro Tosti carded five birdies en route to an even par round that put him in a tie for 16th. Sophomore Gordon Neale also finished the first day at even par.
UNLV posted the best score Monday, a one-under 287, and sit on top after the first round of play. UNLV's John Oda carded the best individual score by shooting a five-under 67.
The Gators are back in action tomorrow at the West Lafayette Regional in West Lafayette, Indiana, for round two at 8:20 a.m.
Head Coach J.C. Deacon
On his team's performance during the first day:
"We just didn't have our best day today for whatever reason. It wasn't anything glaring. Sam Horsfield got off to a really bad start and I am really proud of how he hung in there and did a really good job fighting back. Andy Zhang had a tough finish and that hurt and Alejandro Tosti had a great round going and only ended up shooting even, so it was a bunch of little things. We're playing good golf and I expect a really good round out of us tomorrow."
On what the team needs to do tomorrow to get back on track:
"We've just got to be more focused and ready to go right out of the gate. The front nine here is pretty gettable, there are some birdie holes out there and I think the guys saw and learned that today and they'll be ready to go tomorrow. I'm excited to get going."
