No. 5 Florida Falls to Vanderbilt in Nashville

The Gators are back in action next weekend for a pair of matches against Texas A&M and Texas.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 5 Florida volleyball saw their 11-match winning streak come to a close on Sunday afternoon in Nashville, falling to Vanderbilt in four sets, 1-3 (20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 16-25).
Taylor Parks led the Gators (13-2, 4-1 SEC) with a career-high 11 kills to go along with 30 assists for her fifth double-double of the season, while Kamryn Chaney and Alec Rothe each added 10 kills. For the match, UF finished with 46 kills and 42 assists while hitting .142. The Commodores (13-2, 4-2 SEC) finished with 52 kills, hitting .252 to go along with 50 assists.
Rothe anchored the defense with seven blocks, and Chaney added four to help Florida total 12 as a team. In the back row, Lily Hayes collected 16 digs and Logan King added 11 as the Gators posted 49 digs.
Vanderbilt was led by Samantha Wunsch, who had 15 kills, four digs and two blocks. Kayla Dunlap added 11 kills and seven blocks, and the Commodores finished with 52 digs and 11 blocks as a team.

- Vanderbilt quickly built a 4-1 advantage and would cling to a three-point lead through 11-8.
- The Gators chipped away at the deficit, taking their first lead of the match at 14-13 following a service ace from Logan King.
- As the teams continued to exchange points, Parks put down three consecutive dumps to keep pace with VU.
- The Commodores took a 20-18 edge and wouldn't relinquish the lead again, taking the opening set, 25-20.
- Rothe and Parks led UF with four and three kills, respectively, as the Gators tallied 11.
- King tallied a team-best five digs, while Rothe added two blocks.
- Florida found themselves in an early hole, trailing 7-3 as the first timeout was called. Rothe put a ball down to end the 5-0 VU run coming out of the timeout.
- Trailing 13-8, the Gators put together a 6-0 run, fueled by strong defense at the net that featured three blocks and two Chaney kills, to take the lead, 14-13.
- The teams went back-and-forth, finding the score knotted at 20 late in the set. Chaney put the Orange & Blue in front with a swing down the line to kick start a 3-0 run the put Florida in front for good en route to a 25-22 set victory.
- Chaney found her offensive rhythm, leading the Gators with five kills.
- Florida tallied six total blocks in the second set, led by four from Rothe and a trio from King.
- The UF defense held Vanderbilt to .095 hitting in the second period.
- The Gators started the set with a 4-1 spurt following a Rothe kill off an over pass and Chaney's seventh kill of the match.
