CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — After opening the 2026-27 women's basketball season with a pair of home victories, the Florida Gators hit the road for the first time this year on Sunday, Nov. 8 when they take on the Chattanooga Mocs (1-1) at 2 p.m. at McKenzie Arena.
The Gators are outscoring their opponents by 26.5 points in the early going this season, thanks in large part to the play of Kiyomi McMiller. The junior transfer is second in the nation in scoring, averaging 36.5 points per game, and she is shooting an efficient 56.0 percent from the field, and 50.0 percent from 3-point range.
On Thursday night, McMiller poured in a career-high 42 points, which was the fourth-highest scoring output in Gators' history. She also scored 30 or more points for the second consecutive game, becoming just the fifth Gators to do so. Only one Florida player has scored 30 or more points in three straight games —Leilani Correa, who netted 30, 31 and 33 points in consecutive games during the 2023-24 season.
McMiller isn't doing it along though. Sophomore Vanessa Harris has already established new career highs in scoring (26 vs. Bucknell on Nov. 2) and rebounding (12 vs. UCF on Nov. 5), and junior Vivian Iwuchukwu netted a career-high 20 points vs. UCF Thursday.
As a team, the Gators have dominated the boards, outrebounding their opponents by an average of 20.0 per game. They also own a 31-12 advantage on the offensive glass.
Chattanooga is in its third season under Head Coach Deandra Schirmer who led the Mocs to a 20-11 record and the Southern Conference regular season championship in 2025-26.
Chattanooga had to replace its top three scorers from a year ago who accounted for an average of 40.0 points per game. The Mocs top two scorers this season are TaTianna Stovall (15.0 ppg) and Sarah Owana (10.5). Stovall transferred to Chattanooga from Kennesaw State during the offseason, while Owana has moved into a larger role with the team after averaging 4.5 points as a reserve a year ago
The Mocs are holding opponents to 52.5 points per game this season, and limiting them to just 27.5 percent shooting from the field and 21.4 percent from beyond the arc.
The Gators are 3-3 all-time against Chattanooga including a 94-52 victory against the Mocs a year ago. They are also 1-0 in Chattanooga having upended the Mocs 72-61 on Nov. 14, 2016 at McKenzie Arena.

GATOR BITES
- For the first time since the initial poll of the 2022-23 campaign, the Florida Gators are receiving votes in the USA Today poll. They received the 38th most votes of any team in the nation.
- Florida has just one player returning from the 2025-26 roster, senior Jade Weathersby. Weathersby was fifth on the team in scoring last season, and third in rebounding and three-point field goal percentage.
- Kiyomi McMiller enjoyed an All-Big Ten season at Penn State last year when she finished 12th in the nation in scoring. She was also one of only five players in the country to average at least 20 points, five rebounds and four assists on the season. She is averaging 36.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 2026-27, and was named to the preseason All-SEC Second Team by conference coaches.
- The Gators have a pair of career, 1,000-point scorers on their roster in Jordan Jones (1,200) and Kiyomi McMiller (1,093). They could have two more by season's end in Jade Weathersby (781) and Moriah Murray (710).
- Although Jade Weathersby is the lone player to return from the 2025-26 squad, she isn't the only player with SEC experience. Taliyah Parker played for the Texas A&M Aggies during the 2024-25 season where she averaged 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds as a freshman.
- Should Florida win Sunday, Reiss would become just the fourth head coach in program history to start a season 3-0. Debbie Yow ran off nine consecutive victories to begin her Gators coaching career to set the program benchmark.
- McMiller made Florida history Thursday when she scored 42 points. It was the fourth highest scoring game in program history, as well as her second straight game of 30 or more points, which made her the fifth member of the Gators to ever pull off that feet.
- Florida has 12 games this season against ranked opponents, or opponents who are receiving votes, in the most recent Associated Press and USA Today polls.
- SEC media members picked the Gators to finish 12th in the league, while SEC coaches tabbed Florida to finish 11th.
