GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida head women's basketball coach Tammi Reiss announced Tuesday that the team has signed former Miami/Syracuse forward Aurora Almón.
"I am so happy and excited to welcome Aurora to our Gators Women's Basketball family," said Reiss. "This young woman is full of passion, toughness, and competitive fire, and she has that little bit of nasty that every coach wants in a post player. It's what makes her an elite rebounder, especially on the offensive glass. Aurora has such an incredible knack for tracking and pursuing the ball, and her vertical, second jump capabilities are stellar. We needed to address rebounding, and Aurora does that for us.
"She also fits our fast style of play with her ability to run and score at the rim. I really wanted Aurora to join our program because she really believes in player development and has multiple years on her clock. Besides that, she may be the funniest person I have ever met, and just makes me laugh and smile whenever I'm in her presence. You can never have too much of that in your locker room or on your team."
Almón was a four-star recruit coming out of high school who helped the Webb School to its third straight Division II-A state championship as a senior. After taking a medical redshirt in 2023-24, she saw her first action as a collegian the following year playing in 15 gamed as a reserve for the Miami Hurricanes, connecting on two-thirds of her shots from the field.
The 6-4 native of the Dominican Republic transferred to Syracuse the following season, seeing action in 29 games for the Orange, starting four, and averaging 3.5 rebounds in just 10.9 minutes per game.
During her collegiate career, Almón has grabbed 12.9 rebounds per 40 minutes, including 6.6 per 40 on the offensive glass. That offensive rebound figure ranks 18th in the nation during that span, and sixth among Power Four conferences.
Almón has also competed on the international stage, taking part in the Centrobasket U17 Women's Championships for the Dominican Republic in 2019 where they took home a bronze medal.
