GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Head Women's Basketball Coach Tammi Reiss announced today that the Gators have signed two-time All-Big Ten honoree Kiyomi McMiller (key-OH-me). The former Penn State Lady Lion was third in the conference in scoring as a sophomore last year (21.6 ppg), eighth in assists (4.5 apg), and 16th in steals (1.8 spg).
"I have waited a long time for this day to come," said Reiss. "I was Kiyomi's first P4 offer when I was at Syracuse and she came to our Elite camp in the fifth grade. I knew then that she would be a special talent.
"I really want the opportunity to coach Ki and teach her the things that she will need to progress to the next level. Kiyomi is a relentless worker, lives in the gym, loves the game and wants to win. Obviously, she is extremely skilled, and her handle is the best I have ever seen from a female. She is a three-level scorer who can create her shot at any time and can really score.
"Ki is committed to becoming a leader and investing in her teammates. She is hungry to learn, hungry to work and hungry to win. Gainesville, we got a good one. Welcome to The Swamp and our Gators family Kiyomi!"
McMiller brings career averages of 20.4 points, 4.8 rebounds 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals to Florida. Last season the 5-8 guard was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team after scoring in double figures in 27 of 29 contests, including 16 games of 20 or more points, seven games of 30 or more, and a career-high 40 vs. Southern California in the penultimate game of the regular season.
The Silver Spring, Md. native had a streak of six consecutive games with 30 or more points late in the year, and during that stretch averaged 34.3 points while connecting on 54.2 percent of her field goal attempts, and 62.1 percent of her three-pointers. She posted three point-rebound double-doubles, and recorded career single-game highs of 12 rebounds, nine assists, six steals and seven made threes.
As a freshman at Rutgers, McMiller averaged 18.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists. She finished fourth in the Big Ten in scoring and was named to the All-Big Ten Honorable Mention Team.
