GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Head Women's Basketball Coach Tammi Reiss announced today that the Gators have signed St. John's guard Skye Owen.
"I'm so excited to have Skye join our Gators Women's Basketball family," said Reiss. "I always love to get that New York grit and swagger on the roster. Skye is an incredible young woman who aligns with the culture of our program on the court and in the classroom. She has great athleticism, but her speed and quickness are what make her special. She is a versatile combo guard who loves to run in transition, and is a three-level scorer. I would say that her pull up is her best asset, and I love her aggressive offensive attack mentality.
"This is a young woman I have recruited before, and sometimes it takes the second time around to come out winning. Can't wait to get her to Gainesville and have her call me coach!"
A four-year member of the Red Storm, Owen helped St. John's to a pair of 20-win seasons and a trip to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. That tournament appearance was the program's first since the 2015-16 campaign.
Owen's 2025-26 season was limited to just six games due to injury, but the year prior she averaged 7.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals. In 30 games, including 14 starts, the Staten Island, N.Y. native connected on 38.3 percent of her three-pointers and 81.3 percent of her free throw attempts. She also established a career high with 18 points vs. Wake Forest.
As a sophomore, Owen played in 29 games with four starts and finished the year ranked 18th in the Big East in steals, and eighth in steal percentage. She averaged 5.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals. That year she also established career highs with six rebounds against No. 19 Marquette, eight assists vs. Xavier, and six steals at Marist.
Owen didn't have far to move when she opted to attend St. Johns as she was a McDonald's All-America nominee as a senior at nearby St. Francis Prep in Queens. That season she averaged 22.0 points and six assists per game, and was named a top-50 prospect by BlueStar. Owen also led St. Francis to the CHSAA City Championship in 2020.
