GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida men's basketball greats Vernon Maxwell and Andrew Moten have been named to the 2026 UF Athletic Hall of Fame class.
Maxwell, Florida's all-time leading scorer, and Moten, fourth on the Gators' career scoring list, helped put Florida on the map in the 1980s by leading UF to its first NCAA Tournament bid in program history. UF head coach Todd Golden informed Maxwell and Moten of their selection together on a video call on Thursday.
"What you guys did for the University of Florida, getting the program on the map and being the kick-starters for what we've been able to do here the last 20 or 30 years means a lot to us," Golden told the two Florida natives.
The pair will be honored with the rest of the 2026 class at the Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, ahead of the South Carolina home football game.
Vernon Maxwell | Men's Basketball, 1984-88

A native of Gainesville, Maxwell was a three-time All-SEC honoree and earned AP All-America Honorable Mention as a senior. In addition to scoring, he ranks as the Gators' career leader in field goals (921) and steals (206) and points in SEC play (1,362).
Maxwell went on to a 13-year NBA career, earning two NBA championships with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995.
Andrew Moten | Men's Basketball, 1983-87
Andrew Moten is Florida's fourth-leading scorer in men's basketball history, tallying 1,930 career points in 125 appearances despite playing just one season with the 3-point line. He helped lead the Gators to their first NCAA Tournament bid in program history in 1987.

The Quincy, Fla., native earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 1984 averaging 11.9 points per game and went on to be a three-time All-SEC honoree and a member of the 1985 All-SEC Tournament Team.
